Preparing for Liver Transplant Surgery ?

Liver Transplant Surgery PreparationOnce you receive ¡°the call¡± letting you know a liver donor has been identified and it¡¯s time for your transplant at Tampa General Hospital¡¯s Transplant Institute, a loved one will need to drive you to TGH as soon as possible. You will enter through the emergency room unless told otherwise. If you have any questions or concerns, your transplant coordinator will be happy to answer them and help ensure that you¡¯re fully prepared for your surgery. ?

What Happens Before Surgery??

TGH takes an individualized approach to care that considers each patient¡¯s unique situation. Your treatment team will provide you with specific details regarding how to prepare for your surgery and make sure you have all the information you need.

In general, you¡¯ll be in close communication with your treatment team, who will evaluate your condition, perform any necessary tests and ensure you are medically cleared to proceed. You may need to stop taking certain medications before surgery, including insulin. You¡¯re also encouraged to arrive at TGH with a fully charged cell phone and remove any jewelry, makeup, hair accessories and oral appliances. Friends and family members will be able to stay with you until it is time to go to the operating room.
