Different Types of Leukemia Treatment
The type of leukemia treatment a patient receives depends on a variety of factors, such as the nature and severity of the condition, the patient＊s age, past medical history and overall health. Personal preferences may also be considered when assessing the various treatment options.
In general, leukemia treatment usually includes one or more of the following:
- Chemotherapy 每 This is the administration of drugs, either by pill or through infusion, to treat certain types of cancers.
- Radiation therapy 每 This is a treatment option that aims high-energy rays at cancer cells in order to destroy the cancer.
- Stem cell transplant 每 Usually performed after chemotherapy and radiation therapy is completed, this procedure involves the transplant of blood-forming stem cells to help restore the damaged bone marrow.
- Surgical intervention 每 This type of treatment is commonly utilized to remove the spleen if it has become enlarged due to leukemia.
